| ARTIST'S STATEMENT |
|
| |
Some people have tended to regard what I do as light-hearted and probably of little consequence.
In fact, it's quite the opposite, arising from questions relating to what we believe, what we think we believe and
what we are told to believe. Probably as a result of a strict fundamentalist upbringing, I have always been
troubled by the possibility that things may not be what they appear to be and certainly not what they are said to be. As a result,
I see most beliefs (even scientific ones) as a form of dogma. And I enjoy poking fun at dogma - wherever it lurks.

| THE WORKS |
|
| |
THE BOOKS (Limited editions of 25)
The book titles are all absolutely genuine, that was essential, I wouldn't have done the print otherwise.
They all appear in the British Library Catalogue and I have no idea what the original bindings may have looked like
(with a very few exceptions), although most have an approximately 'right' style and typography for the date of the original
publication. The giclée method of printing is a high-density digital process producing vivid colour
in non-fading ink, further enhanced by printing on top quality, archival paper. The books are 'crafted'
by me using a digital retouching software.

The Fiction Series (Limited editions of 40)
These modified titles amuse me. Sometimes they're ironic, sometimes they're caustic, sometimes they seem
to me to be quite poignant and all from a slip of the alphabet. Puns and word-play have always fascinated me,
though I realise that there are those who find this kind of thing tiresome - I'm afraid I don't. |
